Fall is in the air !! The leaves are starting to turn in Oklahoma!!
Well Fall is going to be here on Monday. Has everyone checked your heating system to make sure it is ready before you need it. Check filters if it has been more than a month since last check. If you aren't comfortable checking your furnace, please give a licensed heat and air company a call and let them do it for you. It will give you piece of mind, and you will be able to get the company out there so much quicker than if you wait till it is so cold that everyone is calling them on those days. Have a great weekend. I will try and post more often. If anyone reads this please post to let me know that this is not a total waste of time and is useful to some one out there . LOL

A Funny Tip For The Dog Days of Summer !!!!
Well, it has been awhile since I posted anything new. Summer is in full swing now in Oklahoma. Business has been very busy. The past winters ice storms took a real toll on all of our heat pump customers who did not read their users manual and who did not remember us telling them after we installed the units that you always run your heat pump on emergency heat during and ice storm to avoid damaging the outside unit, so therefore there have been an abnormally high number of calls with damaged compressors!!! So I guess this tip is actually for all of you who live where ice storms occur. DO NOT RUN YOUR HEAT PUMP DURING AN ICE STORM !! PUT IT ON EMERGENCY HEAT UNTIL THE ICE IS COMPLETELY GONE !!! It will save your compressor in your unit. Well need to get back to work, but will try and get on more often this summer with more useful tips ( well hopefully useful LOL ) . Thanks for taking the time to read it .

Summer has finally arrived in Oklahoma !! I have been busy answering calls and scheduling our technicians days out. It always amazes me each year , that customers always wait till it is over 90 degrees to check their air conditioners. I personally turned mine on a month ago to make sure it worked o-k . I know I work for a heat and air company but it would be hard for me to get someone out there in the first few weeks of really hot weather. So just remember to keep a clean filter, to save on your bills and to avoid break downs in mid- summer. Have a great week.

Registers blow and Grilles suck
The weeks are flying by, and summer is almost here ( in Oklahoma, anyway ) Are you prepared for the hot temperatures??
I had said that I would try and post helpful tips , So :
Tip #1
Check and change filter monthly
Tip #2
No matter the reason, do not close off any registers in your home. People think that they will save money by not heating or cooling a certain area, but your heat and air system is designed to push so many tons of air, and if the registers are closed , it can't do that , causing excessive wear and tear on your system.
Tip #3
Just FYI 'Registers blow and Grilles suck'. That is the way I remember the difference between registers and grilles. Not sure if you will ever need to know that, but never know when it will come in useful. LOL

Answer to question
Good question. Remember that I am not a licensed heat and air technician. If you have any doubts what so ever about any of the procedures I discuss, please do not proceed!!!
Usually you can service your own equipment.( The exception being if you need your evaporator coil pulled and cleaned, only trust licensed heat and air companies to do that. ) Equipment should be serviced at least once a year, Before summer is one of best times to do your service. For summer services: You start by turning the power off to the unit ( Very important ) then with the garden hose with nozzle, start at the top of the outside coil and go back and forth as you go down to the bottom ( the coils are made of aluminum so don't use pressure high enough to bend them, they bend easily !!) You will be able to see the water coming out the other side of the coil , (if you look down inside the condensing unit as you are spraying the outside coil), and you continue till water runs clear. There is the electric box and the motors that you want to be careful of getting wet, if there is any possibilty of them being wet, wait till dry to turn unit back on. That and a filter change and basically you have a summer service. A licensed company will also check pressures ( freon ) while servicing equipment , but if you have no history of leaks, and your unit cools fine, then a freon pressure check is not necessarily needed. I hope this has been useful, if you have any more questions, or there is anything I can elaborate on above, please let me know.

Life at Central Heat & Air of Cushing
Hi all, I was told how easy it was to create a blog, so here goes ( I hope I wasn't misinformed LOL ) This is the first time I have ever blogged so please feel free to respond with any and all remarks that you think would benefit this blog space and me!!
I work at a heat and air company here in Cushing, Oklahoma. It has been in business here since 1995.
I thought that I could benenfit customers with information and tips having to do with heat and air systems and IAQ ( Indoor Air Quality).
I will try to post helpful hints and answer frequently asked questions.
Tip #1 -- Check Filters Monthly ( and change or clean if needed !! )
This is the number one way to insure efficiency and long lasting equipment. You wouldn't believe how many customers tell me when asked that yes their filter is clean and when we arrive act totally surprised that we pull a dirty filter out. I would say that 50-75% of our service calls could have been avoided if they had just changed their filters.
With the rising cost of electric and gas both-- any heat and air system can benefit from clean filters. Regular filter changes will not only improve efficiency but also help extend the life of your equipment.
Please let me know if you have any heat and air questions, that I can help with. I can tell you that I am not an expert. But I have worked here since 1995, and feel I have a grasp on most problems and their solutions. If I don't know the answer, I will either tell you I do not know, or I will find out the information and post it.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read my blog, I hope to continue this one for many years, or at least as long as anyone wants to read and respond to it. LOL Have a great day. Will see you next week with another helpful tip.
